I can't believe how long it's been since I've had a chance to share my stories. Life has gotten so busy. I'm a full-time student at BYU-Idaho, and it's so insanely busy! I feel like my life revolves around my laptop- hence not blogging much.
In seminary this week, we were talking about Doctrine & Covenants 89-92. In D&C 90:5, it warns of taking the words of the prophets lightly. I asked my students, "What is something that President Nelson has said recently that we might take lightly?" In each class someone brought up the need to call the church by it's full name. That was one I had thought of, too. The kids said that it's hard to say, "I belong to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints," because then they have to say, "Mormon" to whoever they are talking with. We challenged each other to work on that one.
There was one thing we may be taking lightly that I hadn't even thought about. One girl said accepting the younger kids into our classes and quorums. Almost every kid blushed at this. They are sad that the younger kids have joined with them, and they aren't too welcoming to them. I thought it was interesting that it was something they all agreed with. They decided they needed to be more willing to accept and help out these younger kids.
Then yesterday this announcement was made. Social media was crazy with everyone's opinions about the missionaries getting to actually speak with their families each week and on special days. I've never been a missionary, but as a sister to a missionary, I'd be so grateful for this opportunity. We were lucky and got to talk to him a few times more than normal, because of visa issues. My lesson came to mind, reading all of these opinions.
I am so grateful for the opportunities I get to teach the youth of the church. I learn so much.
Keep moving forward, and when changes come, which they always do, we have the chance to receive personal revelation. We can know that these changes are for the good of the Church. We have a prophet of God on the earth today. He is there to lead us and direct us. Jesus Christ is at the head of this, and I'm so grateful for Him!
