You know how on Facebook, there's an "On This Day" section? Well, two days ago, it said "One Year Ago: Tonight on the plane, I overheard the BYU girls soccer team talking about their religion classes. It made me remember how I had once had the impression to become a seminary teacher."
I loved seeing that! A few years ago, I had the impression to become a seminary/institute teacher. I started to look into it, and realized I needed a bachelors degree to accomplish that dream. I looked into a few schools to see what it would take to finish it, and was concerned about going into debt to get that degree. In church, we are taught to be self-reliant, and "avoid unnecessary debt". I did not want to go into debt to accomplish this. Then I started dating someone, and my focus turned elsewhere. I had completely forgotten about that whole impression after that relationship, until I heard the BYU students talking about their classes. Then one day I was driving home, and was listening to KBYU on my radio, and there was a devotional on announcing the Pathways Connect program of the church.
The Pathways program is a program that makes attending college possible for people all over the world at a price that's affordable. You take three semesters of Pathways, and if you keep a B average, then you can attend BYU-Idaho online at the same cost you pay for Pathways. So, one credit hour for me is $68.
Listening to that devotional that day was an answer to prayers. The fact that I even heard it is a small miracle on it's own. I rarely listen to local radio, I usually have SiriusXM on. I don't know what made me turn to KBYU. Tears were streaming down my face, as there was finally a way that I could do school, without going into debt.
I tried to register for the first semester, that I knew about it, but the website said there wasn't an option in Ogden. So, I waited until this semester. It's been going for five weeks, and I love it! It's only two classes a semester, which seems like it's going to take forever, but I decided time would pass anyways, I may as well be doing something about it!
Right now I have a General Studies class and a Book of Mormon class. I'm amazed to see how my study habits have grown. Everything is so based on the spirit, and becoming a better disciple of Christ. I had no idea it would be like this! Everything is online, except we meet on Thursday nights in Ogden. The people in my online classes aren't the people in my Thursday night class. So, I get to know lots of people! Thursdays classes are where we gather to discuss the lessons of the week. They are overseen by a missionary couple. I love these nights! The people all have different insights into things, and it's great to see things from a new perspective. I admire so many of them!
I loved seeing that pop up on Facebook, and know that I'm doing something about it! I don't really know where this adventure is going to end up, but I'm going to finish my degree, and hope I get to teach. No matter what, I know that I'm on a new path to a better me, and I'm thankful for that!
